We are in the post pandemic era of the bicycle industry and as other manufacturers struggle with over stock and slow sales due to the market glut, Euilly 5 will march on. We have some exciting plans for 2024 as we begin to understand our market; individuals who see bicycles as more than extruded and molded tubes of inert material with fancy paint jobs and logos, but as living and responsive extensions of themselves. Our bikes are evolving this year in two ways. First there will be some minor design changes; a more relaxed angle on the head tube, tapered chain stays to reduce weight and drag, cable guides on the seat stays and optional 2x groupsets. Secondly, the frames will show off the inherent qualities of wood to a greater degree. Again, no logos but instead delicate inlays based on native American designs. This will be called the “Thunderbird” line. The thunder bird is an iconic Meso-American feature found on pottery, basketry and weaving. It is only natural that American made bicycles should reflect the qualities that engendered them. I see bicycles as more than a conveyance or sport equipment; they are an object upon which the artist can express themselves. This is where the hand built bicycle can truly differentiate itself from the mass produced cookie cutter bikes that we see everyday. Bicycles as art and as art each individual bike should be unique and beautiful.
